Hoary Marmot eating plants in Mount Rainier National Park

Check out this large rodent! Isn’t it cute?!?! It is a Hoary Marmot, and it lives in Mount Rainier National Park. Hoary Marmot (Marmota caligata) The hoary marmot, so called because of the mantle of white fur that covers its back, is a common sight for visitors. A member of the rodent family, marmots are active creatures and can be seen mostly in the alpine and sub-alpine mountain slopes where they build dens in the rocks. Marmots are social animals and can be seen living in small communities near their dens. They can also be found in the flower fields eating the lush meadow vegetation. Marmots need to store fat and energy for the long hibernation during the winter months. Available on location and from www.finleyholiday.com
