One of the heaviest spring snowstorms in years hit the Rockies Friday, April, 17. The Pikes Peak Cog Railway runs to the summit year round, but it took the work crew nearly a week to clear the track to the Summit House. Working at altitudes up to the 14000-foot summit, they needed everything big locomotive #22 could give them, plus dynamite, chain saws and shovels. Filmed in high definition, the new Pikes Peak Cog Railway DVD will be available on location at Pikes Peak about June 1st. For train schedules, visit www.cograilway.com. it would have been awesome to have a big bag of hamburger and blood down in there for a hot of it going through the plow. kool video.
What an awesome video!! Wicked!
OutSTANDING video quality, scenery and content. In short: “WOW!” THANKS for posting!!
Heh It was nice to see a car that is on the pikes peek rail-line that is named after my home town., Leadville I had no idea there was a car named that there. I think i may have to go pay a visit and ride that car.
Remarkable video, great photography, good camera and sunny day just after heavy snow… in the right place!
Well done!
The snow is deeper in some drifts than the snowplow train is tall. The chainsaw is the fastest way to cut through the overhanging blocks of snow and ice that the plow can’t reach.
chainsaw?
thats carving one big line through the snow creating avalanches…that must happen with that deep of snow
What exactly was the chainsaw used for?
i want one
that lots of snow
do you have one of those snow removers each side of the line?
i wanna see more of this
One thing that you don’t get from this video is how hard it is to do manual labor at this elevation (assumed to be above 12,000 as there are no trees). The atmosphere is much thinner the higher you go. Obviously these people are accustom to working up there. I just visited the summit the week before Christmas and it was incredible, but also kicked my butt @ 14,110 for not being accustom to the low oxygen content!!! and that was just WALKING around up there!
like the humor
Yes, he did. But it does add a little suspense to the video.
Did the crew man really get outa there?
i went up on pike’s peak a few years back in june…there wasn’t any snow until about 500 feet to the summit, and at the very top, it was way above my head.
What kind of camera do you use to record yourself? I like the quality for some reason haha. Or is it your lighting? anyways, fun video!
