• Salvage of the Gunboat Cairo - This 20-minute 1960 National Park Service documentary recounts the raising of the U.S.S. Cairo. On December 12, 1862, the Federal gunboat Cairo was sunk by an electronically-activated mine near Vicksburg. She lay undisturbed for nearly a century. In the early 1960s, she was raised and authentically restored and is now displayed at Vicksburg National Military Park. |
